Tenasserim Division

Tenasserim Division lies at the Southern end of Myanmar. The Division has common borders with Thailand on the east and south-east, Mon State on the north, and Andaman Sea on the west. The area of Division is 16735 square miles. Out of about 1000 islands along Myanmar's coastline over 800 are in Tenasserim coast. Tavoy is the Capital Tenasserim Division.

Mons, Salons, Burmans, Karens, Paos, Tavoyans, and Pashus (Malays) live in the Tenasserim Division.

In agriculture, the main crops are paddy, betel nut, coconut, rubber and dhani. Tapioca, rambutan, doorian and mangosteen are also grown on a large scale.

The Division is rich in natural resources. Famous mines are Heinda, Mamyingyi, Kanbauk, Yaw, Kyaukmetaung, Nanthida and Yadanabon which produce a lot of metals. Pearls cultured at the Pearl Island earn a great amount of foreign currency at the Myanmar Gems Emporia. Arrangements are being made for the sea fishing industry along Tenasserim coast to supply not only for domestic consumption but also for export. Birds' nest is also being gathered from offshore islands.
