Magwe Division

Magwe Division falls in the Dry Zone of Central Myanmar, bordering Mandalay Division on the east, Sagaing Division on the north, Chin State and Rakhine State on the west and Pegu Division on the south. Its area is 17305 square miles its Capital is Magwe.

Burmans, Asho-Chins and Rakhine inhabit in Magwe Division.

It is the supplier of cooking oil as sessamum and groundnut crops thrive in this division. Other crops grown are paddy, maize, cotton, pulses, Burmese Tobacco, Virginia tobacco and potatoes.

The known mineral resource of the division of oil, it being the area where oil was first discovered and is now being extracted in large quantities. Yenangyaung Oil Field, Chauk Oil Field and Mann Oil Field in Minbu (Sagu) are major oil producing areas in the country. Other products are cane, bamboo, charcoal, cutch, teak and hardwoods.

The artery of Magwe Division is the Irrawaddy River. Railways and motor roads are also traverse the region in addition to airfields.
